A large percentage of my wedding enquiries/couples find me via instagram and this was another of those cases. Renee and I had been social media friends for a while before her actual wedding finally came around… so for a while it felt like I would never get to meet the wonderful soul that was Renee.
Finally the day came that I would pack my bags and fly to beautiful Nelson, New Zealand to photograph Renee and Ben’s wedding on Renee’s family’s deer farm in the coming days… and also officially meet Renee for the first time.
If you are unfamiliar with Nelson, it is known for the most amount of sunny days per year… that’s a real thing… Nelson and some other place in the North Island, apparently fight it out for the title each year. It is just this really special and quaint place and surrounded by beautiful lush scenery. And yep, just to recap… it generally never rains.
Fast forward to the wedding day and we managed to get through the ceremony with only a light sprinkle… then through the family portraits it came down a little harder.
So when we went off to do the portraits, we knew we would be fighting a race against time, but we just didn’t realise how soon the heavens would open up and just how heavy that rain would come down.
Renee and Ben didn’t hesitate, as the rain came rushing down around them… literally running down their skin. They just held each other close, laughed and kissed like nothing else mattered in that moment… and it didn’t.
